# API (API)

The agreed way two programs talk to each other, like your app asking an AI provider for an answer.

**Analogy:** A waiter taking your order from the table to the kitchen and bringing the dish back.

**Example:** For example, your backend calls the Tokentide API to summarize a user's note and gets the summary back.
