Setup
“Command not found” after installing a tool
- What you see
- You installed Git, Node.js or the GitHub CLI, but your agent says
command not found. - Why it happens
- Apps only learn where new tools are when they start. The Claude app was open before you installed the tool.
- How to fix it
- Quit the Claude app completely (Mac: Cmd + Q; Windows: close it from the taskbar).
- Open it again and reopen your project.
- Ask your agent to check the tool's version again.
Message for your agent
I just installed a tool and you said “command not found”. I've reopened the app: please check `git --version`, `node --version` and `gh --version` again and tell me what's still missing.
Tip
How to prevent it: Reopen the app after every install. It takes ten seconds.
