# `fatal: not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git`

**Where it appears:** Terminal

**What it means:** Git was asked to run a command in a folder where Git hasn't been switched on yet (there is no `.git` folder here).

## Likely causes

- The terminal is in the parent `Development` folder instead of inside your project folder.
- `git init` hasn't been run in this new project folder yet.

## Message for your agent

**Prevention:** Always open your agent inside your project folder (`Development/<project-name>`) and never delete `.git`.
