# Git asks who you are (name and email)

**What you see:** A commit fails with “Please tell me who you are”.

**Why it happens:** Git signs every checkpoint with a name and email, and it hasn't been told yours yet.

## How to fix it

1. Ask your agent to set your Git name and a private GitHub email (the `noreply` one, so your real email stays private).
2. Let it retry the commit.

## Message for your agent

```text
Git asked who I am. Set my global Git user.name and a private GitHub noreply email from `gh api user`, then retry the commit.
```

**How to prevent it:** It's a one-time setting. The Setup stage covers it.
